Description:
Nakia's mama (Rula) was pregnant when we trapped her from a large feral cat colony. The cats in the colony have calicivirus, and kittens have less severe symptoms when we vaccinate moms (FVRCP killed) prior to giving birth, and vaccinate kittens (FVRCP killed) between 4-5 weeks old, then with FVRCP modified live at 8 weeks. We believe some of the cats in/from this colony can be prone to viral gingivitis and stomatitis if they do not receive responsible dental care throughout their lives. A third pregnant feral came in with Rula and Ramona. She tested positive (IgM titer 1:64, IgG titer negative) for T. gondii and is being treated. Our vets consulted with an internal medicine specialist and a pathology specialist who concurred the risk of kittens being infected was too low to warrant treatment or testing. Nakia did well with her spay surgery.
Colony:
Happy forest
